The fourth-largest city in Scotland and one of two Unis in Dundee means there is an inevitable rivalry with their neighbour. One of the most densely populated places in the UK. Something to consider is the high proportion of local students likely to be saving money by staying at home. It was only given "University status" in 1994.
Apparently the city of Dundee is undergoing "a cultural renaissance". We think this basically means that they are investing in the city to improve the state of industrial decline that the city had found itself lying in. With huge planned investments the city looks set to become better than it was. Booze is relatively cheap as is the cost of living. It is in Scotland so Southern types should prepare for a cold and wet time (how stereotypical!) although Dundee claims to be Scotland's sunniest city. Apparently the locals are accommodating towards students but our experiences think that this is somewhat wishful thinking. If the majority of students are local are you going to stick out like a sore thumb?
Founded as the Dundee Technical Institute in 1888, later converted into a centrally funded institution with full degree-awarding powers (including research degrees) from the 1970s onwards. Recognised as an "industrial university" by the Scottish Office as early as 1902, but only allowed to use formal university title in 1994.
