What we say:

Small city near Snowdon and the Menai strait. Yet another “University City”. Nights out tend to focus around the SU but there are other venues.

It has the 9th longest pier in the British Isles.

Good for the outdoors lover with the mountain and seaside setting.

Brief history:

The University was founded as the University College of North Wales as a direct result of a campaign in the late nineteenth century for higher education provision in Wales.

It opened its doors on 18 October 1884 in an old coaching inn with 58 students and 10 members of staff. Funds were raised by public subscription to establish a college of university rank in Bangor. An important feature of its foundation was the voluntary contributions made by local people, including farmers and quarrymen, from their weekly wages over a period of time.

The students received degrees from the University of London until 1893 when UWB became one of the three original constituent colleges of the University of Wales.

- St. Mary's site is situated near the top of Lôn Pobty, overlooking the centre of Bangor, and very close to the Science Departments and School of Informatics. St. Mary's is also ideally situated for Bangor High Street's shops and nightlife.
- The College Road Site is located a stone's throw from the original Top College building in Upper Bangor, and departments such as Psychology, Music and the School of Business and Regional Development.
- Ffriddoedd Site; The largest accommodation site is the Friddoedd Site in Upper Bangor about 10 minutes walk from Top College, the Science Site and city centre.

Undergraduate fees

Bursaries
- Bangor Bursary means you could receive up to £1,000 a year in extra financial help from the University. Bangor bursaries are available on top of any state-funded maintenance grants and loans, as well as any other University bursaries you may be eligible for.

Scholarships
- Sports scholarship; Sporting provision for high achieving sports people and the Llew Rees Memorial Prize (£750)for the most succesful sports person at the university.

- Subject specific awards; £500 award for studying chemistry, computer science, electronic engineering, law and modern languages.

- Merit and entrance scholarships; 40+ £3000 awards for those that excel in the University's annual entrance scholarships examinations.

You're looking for a good nightlife.... two nightclubs and one SU (although the SU is pretty good compared to others, it's pretty small).

You're good looking, the general population of students here are UGLY, you'll find a good looking one every full moon if you're lucky.
