What we say:

Bath (Aquae Sulis to the Romans) can be found at the bottom of the Avon valley near the Cotswolds (an designated area of outstanding natural beauty). The city is probably most famous for the Roman spa and varied architecture. The campus is a few miles away from the city.

The Uni is one of two in the city and is much more vocational than Bath itself. There is a tendency towards the mature, female student (70% female and 40% mature) which in many opinions results in a more study focussed campus!

Sport is a fairly forgotten activity.

Not especially hot on the nightlife front, a lot of places exploit the tourist base of the city with expensive booze but there are still places to go!

Brief history:

The University can trace its origins back to 1898, when the earliest of its parts were formed as the Bath Academy of Art. The Newton Park campus was first leased by Bath Teacher Training College in 1947 from the Duchy of Cornwall. Bath College of Higher Education was formed in 1975 from the merger of two colleges; Bath College of Education and Newton Park College of Education.

It wasn't until 2005 that the instituition won University status and became Bath Spa University.

Bursaries

Rail:

Train services operate from London Paddington, Bristol Temple Meads, Cardiff Central, Portsmouth Harbour, Southampton Central and Weymouth railway stations. Bath Spa railway station is next to the bus station in the centre of the city

Road:

Due to limited parking at our campuses, Bath Spa University encourages people to use public transport whenever possible. If, however, you do need to travel by car, follow these directions.

From the East and Major Routes:
- Join the A46 from the M4 (junction 18);
- Turn right onto the A4 to Bath;
- At traffic lights (by A36 turnoff), get into the right hand lane and proceed straight ahead along the A4;
- Take second exit at mini-roundabout along the A4;
- At traffic lights (by Lansdown Road turnoff), proceed straight ahead along the A4 George Street;
- At end of George Street, turn left following the A4 along Gay Street towards Queens Square;
- Circle Queens Square and take A4 exit onto Queens Square Place/Charlotte Street;
- Continue along A4 past Crescent Gardens and Saint Georges Place;

For Sion Hill and Somerset Place:
- Turn right onto Marlborough Lane (signposted "Bath Spa University");
- At junction, cross over onto Cavendish Road and climb hill;
- At junction, turn left for Sion Hill and right for Somerset Place.

For Newton Park:
- Carry on along the A4;
- At traffic lights (by A3064 turnoff), get into the right-hand lane and proceed straight ahead along A4 Upper Bristol Road;
- At traffic lights (by A431 turnoff), get into the left-hand lane and proceed along A4 Newbridge Road;
- After crossing the river, bear left and turn right at lights onto dual carriageway (A4);
- Take second exit at "Globe Inn" roundabout to join the A39. The entrance is immediately on your left;
- Watch out for bendy busses along the driveway, and use passing bays when necessary.

From Bristol and West:
- Follow A4 eastbound from Bristol;

For Newton Park:
- Take third exit at "Globe Inn" roundabout to join the A39. The entrance is immediately on your left;
- Watch out for bendy busses along the driveway, and use passing bays when necessary.

For Sion Hill and Somerset Place:
- Take first exit at "Globe Inn" roundabout to continue along the A4 to Bath;
- Fork left just before the traffic lights at the end of the dual carriageway;
- At traffic lights (after A431 turnoff), proceed straight ahead along A4 Upper Bristol Road;
- At traffic lights (by A3064 turnoff), get into the left-hand lane and proceed straight ahead along A4 Upper Bristol Road;
- At junction, cross over onto Cavendish Road and climb hill;
- At junction, turn left for Sion Hill and right for Somerset Place

Buses:

Bright Orange buses (service 418 operated by First) run every 20 minutes during term-time between Bath city centre and Newton Park (A return ticket currently costs £3.00 but longer length tickets giving discounts are also available). Buses to Newton Park leave from just outside the railway station. Service 700 stops at the Sion Hill campus. Service 2 stops at the junction of Lansdown Road and Sion Road.

During the Southgate Redevelopment, the bus station at Manvers Street will be relocated to the Avon Street car park, between Green Park Road and Corn Street. This temporary bus station will operate from 17 June 2007 until the work on the new bus station is finished in early 2009. The 418 bus service will continue to operate from Dorchester Street (stop Bh), but will also depart from Green Park Road (stop Ww) and from Avon Street (stop Wm). Service 700 will operate from within the temporary bus station. Service 2 will operate from the Ambury (stop Wq).
