What we say:

The city itself is one of the 10 largest in the UK and a £200 million regeneration scheme in the pipeline, the area will only improve!

Campus is close to the city centre and the Uni has tended to edge towards the vocational course. Large number of placements and sandwich courses available. Again watch out for the large number of local and mature students.

Big chain pubs like Spoons, Varsity and Flares take care of the evening starting point. Moving on after that you will struggle to find more than the standard student cheese without descending upon Leeds or Manchester (both of which are accessible).

Brief history:

The University has its roots in the Bradford School of Weaving, Design and Building, which existed in the 1800s. The courses on offer have evolved with each new name of the University. In 1882 came the first change where the Bradford Technical College was created, then to Bradford Institute of Technology in 1957. Finally shortly after England won the 1966 FIFA World Cup, a Charter of Incorporation was granted to create the University of Bradford.

- The University of Bradford Bursary is a non-repayable bursary package to EU & UK students whose family income is under £38,330 a year. You could receive:
- £500 in your foundation year
- £500 in year 1
- £700 in year 2
- £900 in year 3

Scholarships
- School of Engineering, Design and Technology (EDT) Scholarship; 5 £500 awards available for the top five performing undergraduates studying full-time courses (BEng, BSc, or MEng Honours ) in EDT.

- Benjamin Jowett Memorial Scholarship; 7 £500 awards for the top seven students studying mechanical, automotive and design engineering undergraduate honours courses.

- Accent Scholarship; 3 £4500 awards for students studying community regeneration and development. They must complete an essay showing their dedication in this area.

- Peace Scholarships – the Adam Curle Scholarship and the James O’Connell Scholarship; 2 £3000 awards for students who posses academic potential but also have relevant interests and experiences outside of formal education.

Rail:

Bradford Interchange has extensive rail links, though many involve changing at Leeds. You may also arrive in at Bradford Forster Square.

Approximate journey times are:
- London Kings Cross 3 hours
- Edinburgh 4 hours
- Birmingham 3 hours
- Manchester 1 hour

From Forster Square station, walk along past the "Fibres" sculpture out onto Cheapside, then along Market Street to City Hall. From there walk in front of the fountain and the Police Station. Cross the road and walk left towards the glass front of the Alhambra Theatre. Turn right up Great Horton Road just before the Alhambra Theatre. The University is about 300 metres up this hill, beyond the College.

Coach:

- An extensive coach service connects most parts of the country to Bradford's Travel Interchange.

- Walking takes about 15 minutes, though it is partly uphill. Come out of the Interchange, down the hill, across the crossing and turn left in front of City Hall and walk in front of the fountain and the Police Station. Cross the road and walk left towards the glass front of the Alhambra Theatre, turning immediately right, before reaching the Theatre, up Great Horton Road. The University is about 300 meteres up this hill, beyond the College.

Road:

Bradford is connected to the national motorway network via the M62 and the M606.

Approximate distances by motorway are:

- Leeds 8 miles (13 km)
- Manchester 35 miles (56km)
- Newcastle 95 miles (152km)

If you are travelling from the south, east or west of Bradford, you will probably find it most convenient to use the M62 and the M606. If you are arriving from the north-west you will probably use the A629/A650 via Skipton and Keighley. From the north-east it is most convenient to use the A1 or A19, and reach Bradford via the A59 and then the A658 south of Harrogate.

Buses:

Buses 610/1/2/3/4 leave for the University from Channing Way, outside City Hall, a short walk from the Interchange; at regular intervals during the day, and pass the main campus about 5 minutes later. If you have luggage, you can take a taxi. Bradford taxis are not expensive, and the cost should be around £4.

The School of Management is just over 2 miles from the Interchange, The 662 buses leave at regular intervals going along Manningham Lane. There is a stop at Emm Lane (about 15 minutes). A taxi should cost around £6. There is also a main campus to School of Management bus service.

Taxis:

Taxis are available from both the Interchange and Forster Square, and cost around £4.00 to get to the University main campus.
