Brighton

What we say
What we say:

4 campuses each of which are very different so make sure you know which one you want to apply to! Yet again beware of the high local and mature percentages because you don’t want to feel too different, or maybe you do! Decent sporting scene, 31st in the BUSA rankings. Academically speaking, some strange sounding courses on offer like horse studies!

Young and fast paced and one of the biggest gay scenes in the UK. Clubs and pubs are not all “student cheap” you could even go as far as saying it is quite expensive. Bargains can be found and there are a number of good venues to be tried tested.

If you get bored then there is always the beach!

Brief history:

The University can trace its origin back to 1859 when The School of Art opens opened with the first 110 students, housed in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion. In 1876 The School of Art moves to its own building in Grand Parade. Mr William Gladstone, Prime Minister, witnesses the laying of the new building's foundation stone.

Before long The Municipal School of Science and Technology opened in Brighton, then followed a teacher training college called The Municipal Day Training College. All institutions in Brighton had their degrees awarded by The University of London.

In 1970 The School of Art and Brighton College of Technology merge to form Brighton Polytechnic. Subsequently in 1992 Brighton Polytechnic was awarded full university status and renamed The University of Brighton.
