Brief history:

Coventry University has a long tradition as a provider of education. It can trace its roots as far back as Coventry College of Design in 1843. It was in 1970 that Coventry College of Art amalgamated with Lanchester College of Technology and Rugby College of Engineering Technology. The resulting institution was called Lanchester Polytechnic: 'Lanchester' after the Midlands automotive industry pioneer, Dr Frederick Lanchester. In 1987 the name changed to Coventry Polytechnic and in 1992 it adopted the title Coventry University.

Undergraduate fees
- All courses set at £3070
- Placement years set at £600

Bursaries
- The University of Coventry Bursary; £500 available to students who receive the government maintenance grant.In addition the University is making available a bursary of £750 for students whose household income is just above the minimum required to receive the government maintenance grant.

Scholarships
- Academic Scholarships; £2,000 per year available if students can achieve at least 300 UCAS tariff points from 3 full A levels and continue to maintain a high level of academic performance throughout their course.

- Opportunity Scholarships; £2,000 per year available to students who can achieve at least 300 UCAS tariff points by completing vocational qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma or an Access Course and continue to maintain a high level of academic performance throughout their course.

- Sports Scholarships; Up to £2,000 per year available to students who can demonstrate excellence in a sporting activity and will represent the University at a high level in that sport. Students must be participating in a sport recognised by the Central Council for Physical Recreation (CCPR) .

- Creative or Performing Arts Scholarships;£2,000 per year available to students who are able to demonstrate a high level of originality or artistic ability in creative or performing arts.

- Enterprise Scholarships; £2,000 per year available to students providing that they can demonstrate excellence in enterprise and entrepreneurship activities at the university.

- Achievement Scholarships (2009); £1,000 per year available to students who have completed their first year of study at Coventry University and achieve an average mark of 70% or more. The scholarship is paid in the following academic year (2009) and is available for subsequent years if students continue to maintain a high standard.

'CU Visits' - Campus Tours
- If you would like to visit Coventry University you are welcome to book a place to visit the University on any Tuesday throughout the year.

Rail:

Coventry is on the main intercity route. Trains from London (Euston) leave every 30 minutes throughout most of the day with journey times of approximately 80 minutes. There are also daily services from Scotland and the Northwest, from Bristol, the Southwest and South Wales. In addition there are frequent services to Oxford, Southampton and Bournemouth, as well as Nuneaton, Rugby, Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International (for Birmingham International Airport and the National Exhibition Centre).
Once you arrive at Coventry, you have three ways to reach the University:

Coach:

Pool Meadow bus and coach station is located five minutes' walk from the University's main reception in the Alan Berry building. For details of local bus/coach/train times and destinations please contact the bus station enquiry line on: 024 7655 9559.

Road:

Coventry lies at the heart of a motorway network with fast trouble free roads right into the City. Once you get to the City-centre there are signposts to the University from all the relevant Ring Road junctions.
From London: follow the M1, leaving it at Junction 17 onto the M45. At the end of the M45, continue along the A45 and follow the signs for the City-centre.
From southern England: take the A34 to the M40. Leave the M40 at Junction 15, then take the A46 and follow signs for the City-centre.
From the Southwest: take the M5, then the M42, leaving the M42 at Junction 6. Follow the A45 to Coventry. (From South Wales: follow the M4 to the M5, then as above.)
From western Scotland and the Northwest: leave the M6 at Junction 2 and follow City-centre signs.
From the North: take the M1 to Junction 21, then to the end of the M69, following signs for Coventry City-centre.
Car parking
Car parking spaces are very limited at the University itself. Ask the member of staff you are visiting whether it is possible to reserve a visitor's car parking space for you in one of the University car parks. If not, there are a number of public car parks located close to the University.

Buses:

Alternatively, bus numbers 17 and 27 leave the station for the City-centre every ten minutes (after 18.00, every 30 minutes). Ask the driver for 'Pool Meadow', which is the bus terminus. This is opposite Priory Street, as shown on the campus map. Make sure you have cash ready as no change is given on the buses.

Taxis:

If you take a taxi, the fare will be approximately £2.00 and you should ask for Coventry University in the City-centre.
