For those who must travel by car, Cheltenham and Gloucester lie within easy reach of the motorway and dual carriageway network, both being only a short distance from the M5 (junctions 11 and 11a). London is two and a half hours away via the A40/M40 (via Oxford) or the M4 (Swindon exit).
Travelling to Francis Close Hall and Hardwick Campuses
From the A40 or A435 (South East)
- Approaching Cheltenham on the A40, follow signs for Town Centre until traffic lights signposted Prestbury and Winchcombe. Turn right into Hales Road, which continues past GCHQ (Oakley site) into Priors Road. Follow the road until T-junction and turn right onto Prestbury Road.
- At the first mini roundabout turn immediately left into Tatchley Lane, signposted Evesham and Racecourse. Continue for approximately 1 mile past Pittville Campus and over the next two mini roundabouts. At the large roundabout by the racecourse take the second exit into Swindon Lane. At the first mini roundabout turn left into Tommy Taylor's Lane and continue into Folly Lane.
- At the T-junction turn left into St Paul's Road: the entrance to Francis Close Hall campus is approximately 50 yards along this road on the right hand side.
- For Hardwick, turn right at the T-junction and the entrance is approximately 50 yards along this road on your right hand side.
From M5 Junction 11 (Northbound)
- Leave the motorway at Junction 11 and join the dual carriageway to Cheltenham. Take the third exit at the next roundabout signposted Cheltenham A40 past GCHQ. Take the second exit (stay on A40) at next roundabout into 40 mph limit. Join left-hand filter into Gloucester Road before traffic lights opposite the Shell petrol station. Continue along Gloucester Road and go straight on at the mini roundabout.
- Go straight through the next three sets of traffic lights. After pedestrian crossing by Tesco move into right-hand lane. Turn right at lights, then move into left-hand lane and take the left hand bend signposted A4019 at the traffic lights. Go past the Royal Mail sorting office and follow the main road to the right, through the next traffic lights. You can now see Francis Close Hall campus on your left. After the pedestrian crossing take the next turning left into St Paul's Lane.
- The entrance to the campus car park is on the left hand side. Further parking is available if you continue along St Paul's Lane and turn left into St Paul's Road and then left into the campus.
- For Hardwick, continue along St Paul's Road for approximately 100 yards and the entrance is on your right hand side.
From M5 Junction 10 (Southbound)
- Exit the motorway at Junction 10 and join Tewkesbury Road (A4019) at give way. Continue along this road for approximately 2 miles.
- At the large roundabout go straight over following signs for Town Centre. Carry on for approximately 1 mile down this road, filtering left at the traffic lights after Wicks and Office World. Move into right-hand lane (one-way street) and turn right at the end.
- Take immediate tight left-hand turn under railway bridge (Carlton Place), and turn right at the end into St Paul's Road. Carry on for a further 60 yards and Francis Close Hall is on your right hand side.
For Hardwick, turn left into St Paul's Road and carry on for approximately 40 yards, the entrance is now on your right hand side.
Travelling to Oxstalls Campus
From M5 Junction 11 (North, South, East or West)
- Come off motorway at Junction 11 and take the exit signposted Gloucester A40. At the next large roundabout take the third exit signposted Longlevens (B4063). Follow this road through three sets of traffic lights and passing houses and shops. The Oxstalls Campus can be found approximately 100 yards from the end of this road. The main car park entrance is in Oxstalls Lane - take the last road on your right before you reach the roundabout and the first left.
From the M4 Junction 15 (South East).
- Come off the motorway at Junction 15 and take the third exit signposted Swindon/Cirencester (A419/A417). Continue along the A417 following signposts for Gloucester. Go under the M5 and at the second roundabout (Barnwood) take the third exit onto the A40. At the next roundabout take the first exit signposted Longlevens (B4063). Follow this road through three sets of traffic lights and passing houses and shops. The Oxstalls Campus can be found approximately 100 yards from the end of this road. The main car park entrance is in Oxstalls Lane - take the last road on your right before you reach the roundabout and the first left.
Travelling to Park Campus
From the A40 or A436 (South East)
- Approaching Cheltenham on the A40, continue along A40 following signs for the M5. Turn left signposted M5, Gloucester and Stroud into Sandford Mill Road. At the T-junction turn left, signposted Gloucester and M5, continue over first mini roundabout and turn right at the second mini roundabout into Thirlestaine Road. At traffic lights go straight on into Suffolk Road.
- At next traffic lights turn left, signposted University of Gloucestershire Park Campus, into Park Place. Following the signs to the University, turn right into The Park and follow road round to the main car park, signposted University of Gloucestershire, Park Campus.
From M5 Junction 11
- Leave the motorway at Junction 11 and join the dual carriageway to Cheltenham. Take the third exit at the next roundabout, (stay on A40) passing GCHQ on your left. Take second exit (A40 to Oxford) at next roundabout into 40mph limit. Follow the road straight through, passing a Shell garage on your right and through two sets of traffic lights. At the third set of traffic lights move into the right-hand lane. There is a Texaco petrol station on the central traffic island.
- Follow the road round to the right and take an immediate left, then an immediate right into St Stephens Road (the University of Gloucestershire is signposted.) Follow the road to the end and turn right for the main car park. The entrance to the main car park is approximately 500 yards on your left.
From the M5 (North, South or West) Junction 11A
- Leave the M5 at junction 11A following the signs to the A417 Cirencester. Take the first exit from the A417 dual carriageway and turn left at the roundabout on to the A46 sign posted Shurdington/ Cheltenham. Follow this road straight through for about 3 miles. At the first set of traffic lights, by the Moorend Park Hotel, turn left. At the mini roundabout turn left. The entrance to the Park Campus car park is about 450 yards on the right.
From the M4 & Swindon
- At the Air Balloon Pub roundabout on the A417 take the second exit left, then the immediate next left sign posted to Cheltenham. Keep on this road, down Leckhampton hill. Note change of speed limit. Carry on to the bottom of the hill and at the Norwood Arms roundabout take the first exit left. Follow the road to the next set of traffic lights and turn right at the Moorend Park Hotel. At mini roundabout turn left and the entrance to the Park Campus car park is about 450 yards on the right.
Travelling to Pittville Campus
- From the A40 or A435 (South East)
Approaching Cheltenham on the A40, follow signs for Town Centre until traffic lights signposted Prestbury and Winchcombe. Turn right into Hales Road, which continues past GCHQ (Oakley site) into Priors Road. Follow the road until T-junction and turn right onto Prestbury Road. At the first mini roundabout turn immediately left into Tatchley Lane, signposted Evesham and Racecourse. Continue for approximately 1/4 mile until mini roundabout. At mini roundabout turn left into Albert Road: the entrance to the campus is first on your left.
From M5 Junction 11 (Northbound)
- Leave the motorway at Junction 11 and join the dual carriageway to Cheltenham. Take the third exit off the next roundabout signposted Cheltenham A40 past GCHQ. At the next roundabout take the first exit left signposted to the racecourse. Follow this road and at the next junction move into the right-hand lane. Stay on the main road and continue along Princess Elizabeth Way (A435 signposted to Evesham).
- Continue along this road until a large roundabout and then take the second exit that has McDonalds on your left. Stay on this road over another two roundabouts, and a pedestrian crossing. Take the next turning right, signposted to the racecourse. Follow the road to the next large roundabout and take the second exit into New Barn Lane. UCAS will be on your right and approximately 300 metres along the road turn right at second mini roundabout into Albert Road. The entrance to the campus is on the left.
From M5 Junction 10 (Southbound)
- Exit the motorway at junction 10 and join Tewkesbury Road (A4019). Continue along this road for approximately 2 miles. You will pass retail parks on your left until you reach a large roundabout. Take the first exit, with McDonalds on your left. Stay on this road over another two mini-roundabouts. Take the next turning right, signposted to the racecourse, and over a level crossing.
- Follow this road (Swindon Lane) for about 1½ miles, over a couple of mini-roundabouts to the next large roundabout and take the second exit into New Barn Lane (Cheltenham Racecourse on your left.) UCAS will be on your right and approximately 300 metres along the road turn right at the second mini roundabout into Albert Road. The entrance to the campus is on the left.
