Brief history:

The University can trace its origins back to 1949 and the University College of North Staffordshire, where A.D Lindsay put forward the idea of a "people's university". Not only that she wanted Keele to award its own degrees and cut ties with the University of London. Over the next decade the institution grew steadily and in January 1962 the University College received its Royal Charter and became the The University of Keele. A great achievement for A.D Lindsay.

Fees and bursaries:

Undergraduate fees
- All courses set at £3070.

Bursaries
- Only if If you are given the full maintenance grant of £2,765, then Keele will provide you with a £305 bursary each year.

Scholarships
- Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships; £4,000 per annum award to excellent students who are also in receipt of a maintenance grant. These will be awarded for outstanding achievement at Key Stage 5.

- Mathematics Scholarships; Limited number of £1,000 awards for students with a tariff score of 300 points in their best three A-level examinations, which must include an A grade in Mathematics.

- Institute of Physics Bursaries; Limited number of £1,000 per annum awards for students who apply for Dual Honours degrees in Physics or Astrophysics.

- KeeleLink Bursaries; £500 per annum award for students who attended a Keele partnership school.

- Deans’ Scholarships; £2,000 per annum for students who demonstrate excellent performance in any subject at Key Stage 5.

- Rural Bursaries; £500 per annum award for students who lived in rural areas and who need to live on campus because of transport difficulties, can apply for these bursaries which are a reduction of the cost of accommodation on campus.

- Ethnic Minority Bursaries - £1,000 for each year of study.
- Medical Bursaries - £500 for each of the first four years of the medical course.
- Foundation Year Bursaries - £500 for the FY year.
- Work-based Bursaries - £1,000 for years 1 and 2 of study.
- Mentoring Bursaries - £500 for work in year 2.
- Studying Abroad Bursaries - £500 for study overseas in year 2.

Rail:

The nearest railway stations are Stoke-on-Trent (five miles) and Crewe (fourteen miles). Timetables are available online from National Rail Enquiries or TheTrainline.

Road:

From the North
- You leave the M6 Motorway at Junction 16, signed the A500/Alton Towers. At the motorway roundabout turn right onto the A500 for Crewe and Nantwich. The University is signed from here. At the next roundabout, go straight on A500 (A531) and at the next one turn left onto the A531 (A525) for Keele. After approximately 7 miles, turn right at the roundabout onto campus. From the motorway junction to Keele the journey time is about 20-25 minutes.

From the South
- Leave the M6 at Junction 15 and follow the signs for the A519 into Newcastle-under-Lyme. The University is signed from the first roundabout, after leaving the motorway follow signs for the University and Science Park. Two miles out of Newcastle, turn left at the roundabout onto campus. From the motorway junction to Keele the journey time is about 15-20 minutes.

From the East
- If you are travelling on the A53 follow signs to Newcastle-under-Lyme. If you are using the A50, join the A500 and then turn off on the A53 to Newcastle. Travel from the M1 is easiest using the new Junction 23A onto the Derby bypass and following signs for the A50.

From the West
- Follow signs for the A525.

Buses:

Buses from Stoke-on-Trent Station
- First buses (No. 25 service) leave stop F which is on the other side of the road, to the left of the station entrance, every 10 minutes (weekday, during the day) and every 20-30 minutes at weekends. Journeys take about 32 minutes to get to the University. The service stops in Newcastle and a number of places on campus, including Keele village.

Buses from Crewe Station
- D&G buses to Newcastle (No. 85A service) leave from the stop to the right of the station entrance towards the roundabout. The service leaves at 12 minutes past the hour (Monday to Saturday, in the daytime) taking about 36 minutes and stops in Keele village or Barnes Hall. The Sunday service is the two hourly Baker Bus Service 85A.

Taxis:

There is a taxi rank outside each station and typically the journey takes 15-20 minutes from Stoke Station and 20-25 minutes from Crewe Station.
