Brief history:

The University has roots going back over 100 years to 1899 and the Kingston Technical Institute, which offered courses ranging from Chemistry, Electric Wiring and Building Construction to Nursing, Dressmaking and Clay Modelling.

The institution chopped and changed after the second world war, with colleges of art and eduacation merging and seperating until they all joined the Kingston Polytechnic, which was formed in the 1970s. It subsequently became Kingston University in 1992.

- Those who live within 10 miles of the University or applied through clearing are automatically denied a place in halls.

Location
- Chancellor's, Walkden and Rennie are all conviniently located at the Kingston Hill campus. Middle Mill is adjacent to Knights Park campus, while Clayhill and Seething Wells are on opposite sides of Surbiton thus requiring the bus service. Finally, there is Kingston Bridge House which is situated on the edge of Bushy Park at the Hampton Wick end of Kingston Bridge, which also requires the bus service.

Rail:

- Trains run regularly from London Waterloo to Kingston upon Thames station or Surbiton station (at least every 15 minutes). The train journey takes approximately 25 minutes.

Road:

From the North:
- Follow the M1 to junction 6a (M25)
- Take the M25 to junction 13 (A30)
- Follow the signs to the A308 (Kingston) through Staines, Sunbury, Hampton Court and on to Kingston Bridge

From central London:
- Take the A3 to Robin Hood Roundabout
- Take the right lane filter onto Kingston Vale (A308)

From the South:
- Take the M25 to junction 9
- Then take the A243 to Surbiton and follow the signs to Kingston

From the South West:
- Take the M3 to Sunbury
- Then take the A308 to Hampton Court and follow the signs to Kingston
