Brief history:

St David's College was founded by Bishop Thomas Burgess in 1822 and admitted its first students on St David's Day in 1827. After the ancient universities of Oxford and Cambridge and Scotland, it is the oldest university institution in Britain, receiving its first charter in 1828. For more than a century it was an independent degree awarding college, offering a range of courses, but maintaining a close relationship with the church. In the 1960s it formed links with the University of Wales and became eligible for full HM Treasury support.

In 1971 it became a constituent institution of the University of Wales with the title St. David's University College. In 1996 the Privy Council - in response to a petition from the University - agreed to change its title to the University of Wales, Lampeter in line with moves elsewhere in the University and the recognition of its growth and changing status.

- Samuel Jones Scholarships (1921). Open to Welsh ordinands from the parishes of Llanberis, Llanddeiniolen and Llandinorwig. Awarded by the Trustees - variable amounts.
- Herbert Hughes Scholarship (1922); Open to candidates who intend to serve in the Ministry of the Church in Wales (with preference to candidates from the Parish of Silian, Ceredigion). Open to postgraduate or undergraduate students - £250.
- Simonburn Scholarship (1954); Founded by the Revd. David Evans. Open to ordinands born in Wales, with preference to those from the county of Carmarthen - £100.

Rail:

Our nearest mainline railway stations are:

Travel from the railway stations to Lampeter can be by taxi or bus

Road:

From the south
- If you are coming by road, the M4 will bring you as far as Pont Abraham services, then take the A48 towards Carmarthen (about another 15 minutes). At the end of the A48, follow the signs to Llandeilo at the first two roundabouts and at the third roundabout follow the A485 to Lampeter (about another 35 minutes).

From the north
- Travelling by car from the north or midlands, head for Aberystwyth and then take the A487 to Aberaeron and the A482 to Lampeter.

Buses:

The X40 bus links Lampeter with Cardiff, through Carmarthen, in the South and Aberystwyth to the North. From North Wales, the X32 bus links Bangor with Aberystwyth where you can connect with the X40 bus. Connecting with the ferries from Ireland, the X44 bus links Holyhead with Bangor.
