Brief history:

The University can trace its origins back to 1878 when St Katherine's College and the Hornsey School of Arts and Crafts were opened in North London. In 1973 the colleges became known as Middlesex Polytechnic and subsequently, in 1992, the institution received its royal charter and became Middlesex University .

Undergraduate fees

Bursary
- Middlesex Bursary; Stingy £305 per annum award for students in receipt of the full maintenance grant.

Scholarships
- Achievement Scholarships; £1000 award for students who acheive 3 A Level score. One per school.

- Chancellor's Scholarship; £6000 award for students with success in sport, community/cultural achievement or academic achievement.

- Future Gold Scholarship; Potential £30 000 award if you have a chance of winning gold in the UK in the London 2012 Olympics.

- Isabella Blow Fashion Scholarship; former Fashion Editor for Tatler, self-confessed eccentric and champion of many of this generation's fashion stars – Isabella Blow has teamed up with Middlesex Fashion to offer one Fashion student a £5,000 scholarship.

- North London Scholarship; 10 £2,000 awards for students who make a significant contribution to North London life.

Future plans and investment:

Hendon
- The campus has seen £50 million investment over the past five years. Projects include the impressive The Sheppard Library and the refurbishment of The College Building, with a glazed roof and more SU social space. Future plans at Hendon include building a specialist laboratory block and improved student social space.

Enfield
- The campus will close in the summer of 2008.

Cat Hill
- At the arts and design campus, the University have spent more than £2 million to improve our workshops, studio and IT equipment.

Rail:

- Cat Hilll: The nearest national rail station is New Barnet. You will need to catch the 307 bus from the station to the bus stop on the left just after Cat Hill roundabout.

- Trent Park: The nearest national rail station is either Enfield Chase or New Barnet. From Enfield Chase you need to catch either the 121 or 307 bus from directly outside the station and alight at Oakwood underground station. From New Barnet you will need to catch the 307 bus from the station to the bus stop opposite Oakwood underground station.

Hendon: Fast and frequent overground rail services run to and from central London from Hendon railway station in West Hendon. Catch the local bus (83) outside the station directly to the front of the campus.

Road:

- Hendon: The M1 motorway has northbound and southbound junctions within about a mile of the campus. Cross-city travellers can use the North Circular Road (A406), and join the A1 (Great North Way) or A41 (Watford Way) to approach the campus from the south.

Buses:

- Cathill: You can catch the 298, 299 or 307 buses to Cat Hill roundabout.

- Trent Park: You can catch the 121, 307 or 377 bus to outside Oakwood underground station.

- Hendon: Local London bus services (143, 183, and 326) stop outside the front of the campus.

Underground:

- Cat Hill: The nearest tube station is Cockfosters on the Piccadilly line. With your back to Cockfosters station you need to walk left down Cockfosters road until you reach the roundabout. Cross straight over the roundabout onto Chase Side. You will walk past the Chicken Shed Theatre on your left and the Cat Hill campus will be on your right.

You can also reach Cat Hill from the Southgate tube station also on the Piccadilly line. Cat Hill campus is quite a walk from Southgate tube station so you can catch the 298 or the 299 bus the bus stop just before Cat Hill roundabout.

- Trent Park: The nearest tube station is Oakwood on the Piccadilly line. The University operates a free minibus service between Oakwood station and Trent Park. The service runs every fifteen minutes between 07.00 and 01.10 hours during term time. The bus stop for the minibus is to the left of the exit to Oakwood station, on the same side of the road.

- Hendon: The Northern Line station at Hendon Central is less than 10 minutes walk from the campus. Turn right out of the station, walk up the road to the traffic lights, turn right, and then walk along The Burroughs for 300-400 metres until you reach the campus, which is on the left hand side of the road.
