Brief history:

Founded by Queen Victoria, the Queen's University in Ireland, was designed to be a non-denominational alternative to Trinity College Dublin which was controlled by the Anglican Church.

The University was made up of three Queen's Colleges - in Cork, Galway and Belfast. Although it was the first University in the north of Ireland, Queen's drew on a tradition of learning which goes back to 1810 and the foundation of the Belfast Academical Institution.

- Sports Bursary; £1000 per annum award and sporting support for 25 elite athletes each year.

Scholarships
- Academy Scholarships; Further sporting suppport for athletes performing well in the University Academy teams.

- Queen’s Centenary Gold Medal Entrance Scholarships; £2500 per annum award. One award per faculty and the award goes to the student with the highest A Level score

- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarships; £1000 awards for students who attain a minimum of three ‘A’ grades at A-level (or equivalent).

A taxi fare from the bus station to Queen's Elms is about £3.00 - £3.50.

Taxis:

Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. London-style metered cabs operate from airports and railways stations: private cabs are plentiful and can be booked by telephone. Not all private taxis have meters, so it is advisable to agree a fare before setting out.
