University's Residential Services Office is delighted to assist all prospective and current students in finding accommodation during their studies at Stirling. With over 2,300 places available on-campus, and an additional 1,000 places available off-campus, the University is able to accommodate most needs within its own stock. Where the University is unable to accommodate your needs the Residential Services Office is more than happy to provide advice on finding private sector accommodation within the Stirling area.
Most of the on-campus accommodation overlooks the University's loch and is only a short walk from all teaching buildings, library facilities, shops, theatre, cinema and social areas.
We hope that you find the following pages for both undergraduate and postgraduate students useful and that they serve to answer many of the general accommodation queries which regularly occur. Please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss your own specific requests using the details listed below.

Introduction
The University appreciates that moving away from home can be a daunting prospect and therefore provides a guarantee that all students in their first year of study will be provided with accommodation, as long as applications are received by 1st September.
All first year students, from any location, will normally be allocated a single study bedroom in a University residence on campus, although in times of high demand students may be required to share a twin room. For Session 2007/8 accommodation available to first year students includes Andrew Stewart Hall, A K Davidson Hall, Murray Hall, Geddes Court, Alexander Court and Muirhead House. If on campus accommodation is full, suitable alternative accommodation will be arranged by the University.
Students in their fourth year of study are guaranteed a place in University accommodation. Accommodation not reserved for those in their first or final year of study is allocated to second and third year students who have indicated a preference for this. Overseas students (non-EU) are guaranteed University accommodation throughout their years of study.
On-campus Halls of Residence are occupied predominantly by students in their first year of study and adult returners may therefore prefer other forms of accommodation.
The Residential Services team is delighted to assist all students with accommodation matters and can also provide a list of private sector contacts for those who wish to make their own arrangements.
Nursing and Midwifery Students at Other Campuses
Separate accommodation arrangements are in place for students at the University's Highland Campus in Inverness and Western Isles Campus in Stornoway. For accommodation in Inverness please contact the Accommodation Manager, Tel: 01463 704350. To enquire about accommmodation at the Western Isles Campus, contact Tel: 01851 708243.

38 Week Let

Rooms offered on 38 week lets:
· Geddes Court

· Murray Hall
* A limited number (207) of en suite rooms are available within Andrew Stewart Hall. As these rooms represent just 10 percent of all rooms in halls, demand for these typically exceeds supply.
Am I guaranteed accommodation at the University of Stirling?
Residential Services guarantees accommodation for all first year students, regardless of the location of their family home. Students entering their Honours (Fourth) year at Stirling are also guaranteed accommodation. Students entering their second and third years at Stirling can apply to live in University accommodation, although places are limited and competition is usually very fierce. If university accommodation is unavailable, Residential Services holds a list of private landlords and accommodation in the local area.
When can I move in to the Halls?
The Halls of Residence will be open for students arriving at Stirling from 10:30 AM on Saturday 8th September, although earlier arrivals that day can be accommodated. If you need to move in before Saturday, please contact the Residential Services office on 01786 467060, or using the ‘Contact Us’ section of the site. We will be pleased to help you.
Can I drive my car on the campus?
No. As a general rule, first year undergraduate students who are resident on the campus are not allowed to drive their cars on the University campus. This measure was adopted in an attempt to alleviate traffic congestion on the campus. First year students who live at home will be allowed to drive on the campus provided they have purchased a car parking permit.
What does the University of Stirling supply in the Residences?
Rooms in the Halls of Residence are supplied with:
· Desk and Lamp
· Chair
· Bed, Mattress, Duvet, Pillow
· Bed Linen (laundered by the University)
· Wash Hand Basin
· Bookshelves
· Storage Space
· Electric Power Points (Computer network points available in some residences.)
Is the University Computer Network available in all the Residences?
Computer points have only been installed in Geddes Court, A K Davidson Hall and Murray Hall. Network points are available in some of the flats. The University is currently studying the feasibility of installing network points in all the residences, although first year students are seldom housed outside the four Halls of Residence.
What should do when I arrive?
First of all, relax and take a look around at the hundreds of others in the same position as yourself. Remember that you are not the only one that is feeling a little nervous!!
All you need to bring to the Concierge's desk in your hall or flat is your copy of the occupancy agreement, and the electrical appliances safety sheet that you received in the welcome pack. There may be a very long queue, so it might be best if you don’t try unloading your car until you have been given your keys and shown to your room.
What is there to do during Freshers Week?
Freshers Week is not just about socialising. You will have a fairly relaxed timetable of orientation and induction meetings and registration procedures. These take maybe three to four hours a day, possibly less depending on how early you get up!
In addition, the Sports Union, Stirling University Students Association (SUSA) and local organisations hold a Freshers Fair and SUSA run nightly events in ‘Glow’, the Association’s award winning, on-campus night-club.
Can I have an overnight guest in the Halls?
Yes. The procedure for having overnight guests/visitors will be explained at the Residences Orientation meetings on the evening of Sunday 9th September. Your Halls Assistants will run through the procedure again during their first meeting with residents in the Halls during Freshers week.
Please note that we do not allow any overnight guests during Freshers week, as we would like to give all students a chance to settle in before student life gets into full swing.
If I have a problem who do I talk to?
If there is something wrong with your room, for example, lights not working, you should inform the Concierge.
If you have any other problem, talk to a member of staff, Concierge, Manager etc. Residences Managers are on call 24 hours a day if you need further assistance.
I’m feeling very out-of-place and need some company. Where can I go?
Lonely? Homesick? Find one of your Halls Assistants and have a chat for ten minutes. They will be able to tell you what is going on during Freshers week. Better still – be assertive! Find a group of students – the kitchens are a good bet – and introduce yourself. You might be surprised to know that everyone will be feeling the same as you. During the first weekend of Freshers week, the tea, coffee and biscuits flow freely in the kitchens. You will make friends with some of the residents in the halls, although they may not be the people you share a kitchen with. Remember that even Geddes Court, our smallest Hall of Residence has over 200 students living in it during the year. There will be people with interests similar to yours somewhere – go and look for them!
What cooking equipment can I bring to the Residence?
The only piece of cooking equipment that is not allowed in any of the residences is a deep fat fryer. These are not allowed in the residences, as they are a fire hazard.
All cooking equipment must be used in the kitchens. Cooking in your bedroom is against Health and Safety regulations.
Can I bring extra furniture to the Residences?
No additional furniture is allowed in the residences without prior written permission from the Head of Residential Services.
Can I bring my pet?
No pets of any kind are allowed in the residences under any circumstances. This does not apply to working animals assisting people with a disability.
Can I smoke in the Residences?
The University of Stirling operates a No-Smoking Policy, and as such, it is against the rules to smoke in the communal areas of the residences, or the kitchens. Smoking in your room however, is permitted.
Smoking in the kitchens is a breach of Health & Safety, and is also unhygienic and unsociable.
Up to 15 people share a kitchen, and not all are smokers. Please be considerate to others.
